Spurs & Furs Photography
My name is Danika and I have been creatively expressing through photography for over 10 years. I live in Oakdale California with my husband, Sterling, our two cats, Astrid and Cornelius, and my best friend, a red heeler named Reggie.
Living in Oakdale it’s hard not to find your life centering around horses…at least for me that’s the case. I’m fortunate to ride a phenomenal mare named Dee, or Thumble Lena as per her papers. She has given me the opportunity to learn so many skills, such as team roping and the barrel pattern, but most importantly helped me improve my horsemanship. A skill which I believe is truly of upmost importance when offering services as an Equine Photographer.
Though horses, and people with their horses, has become my favorite subject to photograph it’s not all I know.
Landscapes have long been a joy to capture for me. I feel like it’s a great substitute if you’re hopeless with a brush and paint(which i am) to capture and keep with you stunning scenery.
Self Portrait photography was when I really learned how to capture people in photos. I had always wanted to improve my skills photographing human subjects, but rarely had access to a model. So I learned how to remotely control my camera, bought a tri-pod and started being my own model. As someone who ironically hate being in front of the camera this helped me learn how to capture those “in-between” poses that capture the genuine person, and not the staged and sometimes forced poses.
I have been an animal lover since I took my first breath in this world, naturally, they are my favorite photography subject. Specifically that would be horses, but as a whole the animal kingdom offers so much beauty and interest in capture in photos.
